Soar like an Eagle

Make a trip to Dataran Lang or Eagle Square to see the 12-metre eagle sculpture that looks like its ready to take flight. Explore the beautiful terraces with bridges and fountains around the sculpture. Relax along the seaside and watch the ferries go across the harbor all day long.

Ride a cable car in the tropics

Although we usually find cable cars atop snow-laden peaks across the world, but the Langkawi Skycab can give you some beautiful birds-eye views of the rainforest in Gunung Machincang.

Start your journey at the Oriental Village and reach to the top of the 707 metre tall peak. Have a look around; take in the surroundings and the chilly air. You can also grab a bite to eat and shop for souvenirs. Don’t forget to take some photographs from the observatory’s deck.

Enjoy some wonderful wildlife in nature’s lap

These islands are also home to a variety of flora and fauna unique to this environment. Visit the Kilim Karst Geoforest Park to spot pythons and bat colonies that formed millions of years ago. If you are lucky you may get to spot an oriental pied hornbill that has a bulbous beak or red/blue eyes. Langkawi is a paradise for bird lovers as there are more than 190 species of birds out here.

Another site for sore eyes are the racket tailed drongos as they can mimic many other birds and even monkeys. These birds have a crest that looks like a forelock and typical twin tail feathers.

Beaches to soak up all the sun

Yes, there are countless beaches in Langkawi and you can never complete your vacation unless you explore out the beaches that this island has to offer. To start with there are popular beaches like Pantai Cenang where you can spot plenty of banana boats, jet-skis and other watersports.

If you are looking for isolation and undisturbed natural beauty then head out to the Pantai Kok, 12 kms north of Pantai Cenang. This long stretch of scenic beauty also gives you access to the Telaga Tujuh Waterfalls and the Mat Cincang Mountain. Explore the limestone caves at the ancient Tanjung Rhu where one can find mystical waterways and mangroves around every corner.

If you still haven’t had you fill of beaches then few other suggestions include Datai Bay, Pabtai Pasir Hitam, Pasir Tengkorak and Burau Bay.

Have you fill of lip-smacking Langkawi cuisine

Well this region does favor Malasian ingredients and cooking styles but there are many foods to try out when here. They are numerous attractions to keep a foodaholic on the run always. Nasi Campur is a mix of rice with protein and vegetable stew served with sambal, a chilli garlic spicy sauce available in different variations.

Do try the beef rending, where the meat is cooked slowly over 12 hours so as to let it soak up all the curry and the gilled fish called ikan bakar. Go squid scooping and try out the breaded and fried version that is balanced well with a sweet and sour sauce.

For all those with a sweet tooth, indulge in the ice kacang which is shaved ice with jellies, peanuts, corn kernels topped with fruit flavored syrups and comes for less than 3$! Don’t forget to try out deep fried durians. You may think it’s a stinky fruit to be around but these just taste too good.

A great nightlife for the nocturnal creatures

Langkawi supports some great nightlife scenes around the whole island. There are many top-notch clubs and bars out here for party animals to enjoy. If you are looking for some decent alcohol and cigars head over to The St. Regis Langkawi.

Do try out the Bon Ton Resort, which offers a fine assortment of cocktails, liqueurs and wines that go brilliantly well with their mezze and tapas menu. If fine dining doesn’t float you boat then head over to the Antero Langkawi that has many things to offer. You can watch out a game while enjoying some beers or dance to some groovy tunes in this two-storey nightclub.

Explore the open garden museum at Taman Lagenda Langkawi

This folklore themed park has over 16 sculptures of heroic gaints, evil ogres, mythical birds and princesses. You can either walk around or hire a buggy to drive you with ease. This open garden museum is an amazing place for a day out with your family and friends.

Shop till you drop at the Oriental Village

Spend a day at the Oriental Village and look out for open-air shops with reasonable prices and bargaining choices. A must buy are the batik print beachwear indigenous to this island. You can also hire a Segway and explore the outdoor kiosks without getting lost in the crowd.

Head to the Langkawi Sky Bridge on a clear day and walk along the 405ft curved platform to get a panoramic view of the entire island along with its outlying islets.
